CFAC & Academy of LVA Spring Registration Deadline
The Children’s Fine Art Classes program engages and inspires the next generation of creative leaders by providing intensive, in-depth art experiences to visually talented and motivated elementary and middle school students. Since 1925, the program has offered concentrated studies in two-dimensional art that include studio practices in drawing, painting, and mixed media; art history; critiquing skills; and aesthetics. Each student is provided a $365 scholarship to attend so that economic status will play no part in a child’s participation or placement. An administration fee is paid by those who are financially able to support the program.
Students must be recommended into the program by an art teacher, teacher, principal, community leader (a person who knows of the student’s talent in the visual arts). To learn about how to get your student recommended contact Annette at annette@louisvillevisualart.org.
The Academy of LVA is Louisville's premier pre-professional art program for high school students, under the umbrella of the Children’s Fine Art Classes program. Founded in 1925, its mission is to provide intensive, in-depth art experiences for talented and motivated art students. When preparing the curriculum for The Academy, LVA looked at the National Core Art Standards and also had conversations with the top art universities around the country to ensure our Academy students would exceed their expectations. When asked what they were looking for in applicants, their answer was consistent across the board: "We want students who go beyond exhibiting technical skill and talent. Applicants should have both a style and voice unifying their work and should be able to discuss their work conceptually." By completing junior and senior level classes with The Academy, students should be a top choice candidate for universities and arts schools around the country.

Curate Purchase Inspire (CPI) Registration Deadline
In spring 2022 Louisville Visual Art (LVA) initiated a new program to support Louisville’s artists, curators, and organizations by placing original art in accessible spaces at local non-profits. Curate Purchase Inspire (CPI) is an exciting opportunity to support the city’s entire visual arts ecosystem and is made possible by a generous $1 Million gift from local artist and philanthropist, Clare Hirn. The first year's exhibits were a great success and Louisville Visual Art (LVA) is excited that for 2025 we have selected two individuals for the 4th cohort: Hannah DeWitt and Elizabeth Foley. Look for updates on their projects as they develop.
2026 Applications will be acceprted beginning January 12, 2026. Deadline will be 4:59 pm March 16, 2026.
Each year, LVA will work to build a diverse committee of community arts leaders to choose two emerging local curators to spend six months working with a non-profit or public partner to identify local artists’ work for purchase and installation in publicly accessible spaces. For the purposes of this program, the “curator” applicants are not limited to formally trained or self-taught curators, but could also include artists, designers, writers, or others who are engaged in a creative practice. CPI will set Louisville apart from other cities by providing several unique benefits:

Clifton Clifton Multisensory Art Installation Unveiling Reception
About This Event
Please join us for the unveiling of this monumental piece of public, tactile art in the Clifton neighborhood.
All are welcome, we only request that you RSVP so we know how many attendees there will be.
About the Artwork
Designed to be tactile and inclusive with hand-carved tiles of animals, flowers, and landmarks springing up like wildflowers to symbolize the neighborhood’s growth and creativity. This multi-sensory mural is meant to be accessible and experienced by all.
Created by lead artist Liz Richter and with the help of ceramicist Kristen Falkirk, and disability inclusion specialist, Darren Harbour, this tactile mural tells the neighborhood’s story along a winding road that symbolizes the passage of time. Landmark buildings rise like wildflowers, surrounded by botanicals chosen to reflect Clifton’s organic growth and creative spirit.
This monumental multi-sensory mural, the first of its kind in Kentucky, tells the timeline of Frankfort Avenue and its pedestrians. Located at Clifton Court, it celebrates the diversity and creativity of the surrounding community, bringing history and art vividly to life.
What is multisensory art?
When you think of art you are likely to imagine a painting or sculpture that can typically only be experienced through sight. Multisensory art reimagines the ways in which we can engage and experience art, using the senses other than just sight.
Liz Richter was inspired to create multisensory art when she was teaching at the Kentucky School for the Blind and during her time living in Clifton, which is home to many members of the blind and visually impaired communities. She wanted to create a piece of art that could be enjoyed by all, and decided to create a tactile mural that tells the story of the Clifton neighborhood. Not only can this artwork be experienced through sight and touch, but sound is incorporated into the installation as well through windchimes and a descriptive audio tour.

CPI Louisville Grows Opening Reception
Lindsey Cummins( Louisville Grows) Opening Reception:
Friday, June 13⋅5:00 – 8:00pm @ 1641 Portland Ave, Louisville, KY 40203 (Louisville Grows)
Louisville Grows CPI
As part of a multi-artist installation at Louisville Grows, LVA is proud to present three site-responsive works that transform the rooftop into an immersive, evolving environment. Artists Azucena Trejo Williams and Nathaniel Hendrickson will install hand-formed ceramic slabs onto the bridge structure, shaped organically to mirror the natural landscape. These pieces will respond to wind and rain, producing subtle sound and environmental changes over time. Nearby, Jessica Chao and Claire Krüeger will suspend a translucent, embroidered textile from a custom-built extension at the four corners of the fencing. Inspired by the crown shyness effect in tree canopies, the naturally dyed fabric will fade with time while the embroidery endures—visually linking to the quilt-like mural below. On the rooftop platform, artist Peter Price will carve five persimmon tree stumps donated by Limbwalker, transforming them into sculptural seating and tables. Each stump will feature engraved drawings and will be partially hollowed for ease of use. All three installations are being realized in collaboration with creative consultant and contractor Brad Titzer, who is supporting the structural integration of each element—from a pulley system for the textile piece to a rooftop platform that supports the tree stumps.
Bridge Installation by Azucena Trejo Williams & Nathaniel Hendrickson:
As part of this site-specific installation, artists Azucena Trejo Williams and Nathaniel Hendrickson will incorporate a series of ceramic slabs onto the bridge structure. These hand-formed pieces will feature organic shapes that echo the surrounding natural landscape. Designed to be responsive to the environment, the ceramics will interact with elements such as rainfall and wind, producing subtle sounds and environmental shifts over time. This evolving installation invites viewers to experience the artwork not as a static object, but as a living component of the landscape—shaped by nature, time, and chance.
Textile Installation by Jessica Chao & Claire Krüeger
Artists Jessica Chao and Claire Krüeger propose a dynamic textile installation that will be suspended from a custom-built extension at the four corners of the existing fence. Utilizing a fabricated pulley system, the translucent textile can be raised and lowered, creating an interactive element within the space.
The fabric will feature intricate embroidery inspired by the natural phenomenon of crown shyness—where the upper branches of trees maintain space between one another, forming delicate, lace-like patterns in the canopy. Dyed with natural pigments, the textile will fade over time, while the embroidery remains—a poetic reminder of resilience and transformation.
Echoing the quilt-like composition of the adjacent mural, this piece weaves together themes of nature, memory, and community, bridging the visual and conceptual elements of the site.
Installation: Artists are working with creative consultant and contractor Brad Titzer to install the shade piece and ensure a secure and functional design integration.
Persimmon Tree Stump Installation by Peter Price
Five persimmon tree stumps—generously donated by Limbwalker—will be transformed by artist Peter Price into functional, sculptural pieces. Each stump will feature hand-carved drawings etched directly into the wood, blending natural form with artistic storytelling. To make them more manageable and versatile, the stumps will be partially hollowed, allowing them to serve as both seating and tables.
Installation:
Artist is collaborating with creative consultant and contractor Brad Titzer to construct a wooden platform on the rooftop. This platform will act as both flooring and a structural support system, accommodating the weight of the stumps while ensuring a safe and stable installation.
