En plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air”, and refers to the act of painting outdoors with the artist's subject in full view. Plein air artists capture the spirit and essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light, color and movement into their works.
1st place award – $1,500
2nd place award – $1,000
3rd place award – $500

LVA’s Plein Air Paint Out will be taking place from 9am – 3:00 pm, with awards at 2 pm on May 18, 2024.
Artist participation fee: $40 LVA members, $50 non-members, registration fees are non-refundable. Become a member of LVA Your Paint Out participation fee covers one 12" x 9" canvas or watercolor paper and entry into the contest (cash prize).
A 12" x 9" canvas or watercolor paper will be provided - artists are asked to bring their media of choice to paint with. Artists are responsible for their own easel and chair (if desired). Canvases and paper will be handed out during check-in the morning of the event. Check-in and the Awards presentation will be at Joe Creason Park (1297 Trevilian Way Louisville, KY 40213).
Artists will receive 100% of the sale. LVA will not be taking commission from the sale. Donations are welcome.

9:00 am – 10:00 am – Site opens for Plein Air Paint Out artists to check in at the Joe Creason Park at the Tennis Court parking lot.
2:00pm – Paintings turned in for judging
2:30pm – Award presentation
2:00-3:00pm – Sale of paintings
*Artists will receive the full amount of artworks sold. LVA does not take a commission.
