Recommend talented, motivated art students to attend the Waterfront Park LVA Juneteenth Camp

EDUCATORS IN ZONES OF HOPE:
Help Us Transform the Future for Gifted Young Artists, Poets & Visionaries!

Louisville Visual Art (LVA) and Louisville Waterfront Park proudly announce their third Waterfront Park LVA Juneteenth Camp: a tuition-free celebration of art and learning for ages 7- 12 that runs June 10– 14, 2024. This week-long camp will be held outdoors on the covered outdoor patio of the David K. Karem Building overlooking the Ohio River.

Waterfront Park and Louisville Visual Art are seeking community recommendations for a weeklong scholarship-based visual art camp on the theme of Juneteenth. This weeklong summer day camp (for ages 7 to 12) is available to students from the Zones of Hope and will take place 9:30 am-4:00 pm June 10-14. Campers will be introduced to the works and history of Ed Hamilton, Muhammad Ali, the Underground Railroad, and more enriching information relating to Juneteenth and our city of Louisville. After learning this extraordinary history, campers will then create their own sculptures, collages, miniature landscapes, and paintings to express themselves and their newfound knowledge.  New this year, a Work Together Project, our campers will be joined by JCC campers on Tuesday to start a group art project, and on Thursday our Waterfront Park LVA Campers will join the JCC campers at the new Trager Family JCC for more art collaboration and swimming in the camp pool. Explanations of their art will be practiced throughout the week to prepare for their very own celebrational art exhibit at the end of the camp. Our campers will also enjoy a ride on the Mary Miller Steamboat.

To fill the slots in this Juneteenth Camp, we’re asking teachers and principals at schools in the Zones of Hope to recommend students with promise and passion for the arts. Once a recommendation** is received, parents will receive an online application.

The camp is open to 15 children and will be given to students on a first come first serve basis. A $50 refundable deposit is required by parents/guardians (this refundable deposit will be issued upon completion of the camp). Please send in your recommendations as soon as possible, so your students can be a part of this enriching camp.

**Recommendation indicates that the nominated student is capable of creating and collaborating with confidence and success in the visual and/or literary arts, and has the maturity to enjoy camp activities responsibly without disrupting others.
