Fiber Arts

My experience as an artist began in the realm of quilt-making in the late 1970’s.  Over the years, I have facilitated many family and group quilt projects as well as making and exhibiting several award winning quilts.  More advanced education in the arts was pursued at U of L in the late 90’s, culminating in a MA in art therapy (2002).  During the past 10 years, I have facilitated a number of art activities/projects, working with participants of all ages and backgrounds.

As a fiber artist, teaching artist and art therapist, I work to balance the teaching of skills with encouraging creativity at the appropriate developmental level for participants. I work with the teacher/facilitator to develop a project/theme that supports emotional growth and/or learning in other areas. Activities often include textile surface design (dyeing and printing and stitching on fabric), collage, quilt projects, mask-making, paper-making, journal construction and other 3-D techniques. I offer visual aids and hand-over-hand support as needed.

In additional to projects facilitated through LVAA, I have been fortunate to facilitate projects and residencies funded through Kentucky Foundation for Women, The Ky Arts Council, Ky Museum of Art and Craft, VSA - KY and The KY Center for the Arts – Arts in Healing Program.   Local projects include Americana Fiberworks (2005-2008), Nazareth Home, Our Lady of Peace, Parkhill Community Center, Hazelwood Elementary, and Rutherford Elementary.
