Infinite Riches in a Little Room
January 13 - March 1, 2009

This exhibition is a reflection of the high quality of programs the Louisville Visual Arts Association provides to the community.  For three years, LVAA has presented Food for Thought, a monthly series of lectures, presented in a luncheon lecture format. It is an important forum where invited local artists are asked to speak about their work, share insights, inspirations and process to a captivated, and often sold out, audience. Each of the visual artists in this exhibition has been among those presenters.

The styles and media in the exhibition range from classically trained painters to ceramicists, glass artists, photographers, assemblage artists and sculptors. These artists represent many of the avenues available in contemporary art. Some push the limits or reinvent their medium, as seen in much of the photographic work and glasswork. Others focus on capturing a moment, creating one, or magnifying some aspect of their world for the viewer through their vision and use of material. Whether subtle and detailed or bold and passionate, the work in this exhibition is a vibrant cross section of current art making.

The title of the exhibition, Infinite Riches in a Little Room, stems from a phrase used in the Arts and Crafts movement, a phrase often discreetly carved in to wood pieces from the period. It is a fitting title for this exhibition. The artwork in this show glistens with the energy, talent and much larger oeuvres that lie behind it. Though the making of art is largely a private act, the sharing of that finished image or object with the public is not. This exhibition is a living record of that act and a reflection of a vibrant art community that exists in the Louisville area. It documents the legacy of the Food for Thought program and celebrates a vital facet of the LVAA's mission  - to be a catalyst for education and participation in the arts by supporting the creation of visual art in the region.
