William Duffy

William M. Duffy, a native Louisvillian, has been teaching art for more than 25 years.  He has worked with young people from all social and economic backgrounds by teaching in neighborhood community centers and public and private schools. In February, 1997, he received an official commendation from the Board of Education for "sharing his outstanding artistic gifts with students and staff in the Jefferson County Public Schools".

A self taught and quite accomplished stone carver, Duffy has shown his figurative and abstract sculptures in exhibitions throughout the United States. He’s been commissioned to do sculptures for public, corporate and private collections. Phillip Morris Tobacco, Brown-Forman Corporation, Kentucky Fried Chicken (now YUM), National City Bank, Humana Inc., Red Geranium Enterprises of New Harmony, Indiana, The Louisville Orchestra, The Bingham Foundation for Women and Louisville’s J.B. Speed Art Museum own his work. Most recently he was commissioned by the Kentucky Arts Council to create the awards for the 2007-08 Kentucky Governor’s Awards in the Arts.

With a BFA in Painting from the Louisville School of Art and an exceptional gift in drawing, Duffy, a master artist, has a wide range of skills.  He uses these skills to expose his students to the many forms and techniques of art.

Duffy currently teaches in the Louisville Visual Art Association’s Children’s Fine Arts Classes and Open Doors program, the KY Center for the Arts’ ArtsReach program and the Center for Neighborhoods’ PAL program, to name a few.

Teaching students the “joy and potential found in creativity” is one of Duffy’s greatest pleasures.
