Poetry and photo portraiture workshop at Healing Place-ACLU with artist Aron Conaway and poet Emily Ritter
LVAA, in conjunction with the ACLU-KY and the Healing Place, has begun work with women in long-term recovery. Artist, Aron Conaway has been working with the women in photography, in collaboration with local poet Emily Ritter to create artworks inspired by their hopes and fears through the past, present and future. This positive self-expression, dialogue, and shared experience through visual art will continue in the near future through a project with artist Tara Remington who will be working with the women and their kids to create photo albums for their families. Later an activist community PSA project will be articulated to tell stories untold, through radio and the internet to create community awareness about felon disenfranchisement; voting and voting rights, aimed at changing the general public’s perception of former felons’ rights.
