Michelle Thomas began teaching with CFAC in 2016, as well as at Southside Elementary School in Shelby County after relocating from South Carolina where she was an elementary art teacher for 11 years. She received her bachelor’s degree in art education at Morehead State and a master’s degree in integrated teaching through the arts from Lesly University.

What do you hope your students take away from your class?

The joy of making art and creative problem solving and confidence in their ideas. It is also important to me that students create art using new (and sometimes unexpected) materials.

What is your favorite thing to teach and why?

I love to teach watercolor techniques because there are so many different techniques for kids to experiment and find success with. Many times when students paint with watercolors, the colors mix in a very exciting way that naturally opens instruct to the world of color theory which is a wonderful place to be!!!
