My artwork: Working out of my studio at home, I hand-build pottery, using terra cotta clay. I roll the clay into slabs with a rolling pin and cut out my shapes freehand. I call my pottery operation “showkitty,” and many of my pieces have a cat motif. I love cats and find they have a lot of personality, which I try to capture in my designs. Masks are my specialty. Some are cats, and others are women (including my “Bar Babes”). The latter are an exploration of the many faces and personalities of women. My whimsical work reveals my quirky sense of humor. I hope it makes you smile. Background: A native of Oklahoma, I moved to Louisville, Ky., from Jackson, Miss., in January 2000. I have been in the newspaper business for more than 30 years. My family includes my husband, Butch, and our cats — Munch, G’Kar, Dot and Slugger. I am one of the six owners of Gallery Janjobe in Louisville. |
