Whether you already make art or want to learn how, the Fall Series of Five offers a fun and affordable way to hone your creative skills and expand your mind. The Fall Series of Five – an autumnal sampling of five exceptional visual art opportunities - is LVAA's premiere continuing arts education program for adults, Featuring five of Louisville's most talented professional artist instructors.


Fall Series of Five classes are held on five Sunday afternoons, September – November, at the Louisville Visual Art Association, 3005 River Road. Your registration payment includes instruction, supplies, and a tasty snack. Classes that request a supply fee allow you
to keep you supplies! All you need to bring is a passion for art and the desire to learn.

Raw Hide! Leather Working

Students will gain a basic understanding of working with leather.  Students will design, measure, cut, sew and bind their own journals. Class includes overview of leather varieties and distributors, while the workshop supply fee allows students to keep their own tools.

The Artful Scissor: Fine Art Paper Cutting

$20 supply fee, students keep supplies
The Artful Scissor will begin with a review of the multitude of folk art paper-cutting tradition from around the world. An Investigation of fine artist Henri Matisse's whimsical paper cutouts will follow. Class members will be encouraged to use the techniques best suited to their own creative visions.

Camera-less imaging: The Art of the Contemporary Photogram

Using a variety of photographic processes, students will learn to create works of art from natural materials and common household objects. This introduction to printing for photography includes printing in gelatin silver (traditional b&w), cyanotype (using iron for a characteristic blue-print) and gum dichromate (using watercolor pigment to create the image color). Students are encouraged to bring small objects, toys, jewelry or translucent objects to create their artworks.

Weaving with Clay

In this workshop we will take strips of clay and weave them into trivets, bowls, or wall hangings. Some clay experience would be helpful, but is not necessary to take this workshop. Pieces will be fired and glazed and returned to LVAA for pick-up two weeks after the workshop.

Stone Carving

Students will be exposed to the traditional art of stone carving. Using hammers and chisels, they will create a relief or three-dimensional sculpture from a 5" cube of Oolitic Limestone. Emphasis will be placed on positive and negative space as well as line and surface texture. Beginners are welcome.
