The Louisville Visual Art Association Exhibitions Program- established in 1909
Encouraging creativity and culture in the community
Four months after the Louisville Art Association was
founded in 1909, the fledging organization held its first exhibition.
Chartered with the mission to "enhance the cultural life of the city",
the Exhibitions Program of the Louisville Visual Art Association (LVAA)
has been its mainstay and a primary outreach to visual artists and
audiences over the years. Those roots of looking at, interacting with,
and enjoying visual art are still at the core of our beliefs. Art
reveals the spirit of the age and the people who produced it. The
Exhibitions Program strives to reflect the cultural life of Louisville
through a varied schedule of exhibitions which:
- give insights into our regional, contemporary culture
- support artists, both established and emerging, through opportunities to exhibit their work
- offers a well-balanced exhibition schedule that will appeal to a broad audience
- provide gallery guides and children's activity sheets for each exhibition
- encourages interaction with and questions about the art work
- two unique exhibition spaces that can show art work not feasible for a commercial gallery
- allows our Children's Fine Art Classes students an opportunity to see their art work hung in a formal gallery environment
Our hallmark is an accessible, friendly gallery
atmosphere where questions are welcomed and support materials are
available that both encourage the novice viewer and inform the art
connoisseur. Created by local artists and collectors almost one-hundred
years ago, the LVAA's Exhibition Program continues to be a premier venue
which showcases regional art and artists, and nurtures and encourages
an appreciation of art. |
