Fritz Klemperer began his journey to Kenya at 19, serving his two-year alternative service there as a result of his objection to the Vietnam War. He joined the merchant marine, drove an ambulance, and taught school. He began documenting the people and their struggles through photographs, resulting in his book, A Ballad for Kenya. Over 40 years, Klemperer has traveled to Kenya six times documenting the everyday lives of the people. The Louisville Visual Art Association will host photographs from Klemperer's book as part of the Louisville Visual Arts Festival. These striking images grip the viewer and pull them into a new world of the struggle between tradition and customs against western culture.
