LVA launches Artist Resource Series
thanks to the underwriting of local philanthropist Brook Smith

Louisville Visual Art (LVA) is excited to announce a new professional development series designed to give emerging and mid-career artists in the Louisville area the continued support they need to thrive as professionals. LVA believes it is crucial to provide the resources to our arts community right here in Louisville to foster the development of our city’s creative ecosystem.

LVA’s Artist Resource Series (ARS) will foster professional skills and provide a supportive community among Louisville's emerging and established visual artists. The program will be comprised of workshops, symposia, lectures, group critiques, master classes, and other valuable sessions throughout the year. These monthly sessions will address topics such as artist contracts, copyright law, grant writing, website development, social media strategies, framing and display, writing artist statements, gallery relationships, conducting studio visits, and more.

To support accessibility to the community at large, ARS will benefit from our post-COVID technical capacity for hybrid delivery. These services will include simultaneous remote and in-person participation options, recorded sessions for free-choice access, and virtual presentations from experts located outside of Louisville.

Thanks to the generous $25,000 underwriting of local arts leader and philanthropist, Brook Smith, these courses will be free for local artists. “Impactful programming of this nature at the fingertips of our talented art community will elevate all artists and creatives,” said Brook Smith. “It’s the understanding of topics like these that is simply essential no matter your craft. LVA Executive Director, Kristian Anderson, has astutely responded to a glaring need in the Louisville art scene. Kristian, his team, board, and all involved with LVA should be proud of their transformative work.”

The first course will focus on copyright law for artists, taught by local art law expert, Kyle Citrynell, and will be offered on August 25. In September there will be a course focusing on taxes and tax preparation for artists, taught by CPA Glenn Barber. LVA is also excited to partner with the Great Meadows Foundation to provide October’s course on conducting a studio visit and November’s course in grant writing.

LVA looks forward to supporting local artists and Louisville’s art ecosystem in this new way.
