LVAA offers a variety of continuing art education classes for adults. All classes are taught by local artists and range from life drawing, ceramics, glass, painting and more!
Introduction to Millinery: FASCINATORS CLASS with Sarah Havens

Make your own Fascinator just in time for the Derby season! Fascinator is a
term used to describe fanciful hair accessories that can be made as headbands,
cocktail hats, or clips. Through demonstrations of millinery techniques
with a variety of vintage and contemporary materials, local designer and
milliner, Sarah Havens will guide you to create a one of a kind hair accessory
that is based on vintage and modern designer headwear. If you’d like, you
can bring in a photo of a hat that inspires you to use in the design process.

Introduction to Oil Painting with Reid Norris
Eight-week class
Tuesday, Mar 12 – Apr 30, 6:15-8:45pm

This fun, introductory painting class teaches the
elements of painting and art history. Students will
receive technical instruction both in and out of
the studio in plein-air, still life, and figurative work,
investigating such techniques as alla prima painting,
glazing, local color, abstraction, composition,
and reflected light/shadow. The course can
accommodate painters at all levels of proficiency.
Students who prefer to paint in acrylic are welcome
to join the class.
(8) two and a half hour sessions
$70 LVAA Member* / $90 Non-Member

Participants should bring the following supplies to
the first class:
Black acrylic paint or watercolor – one tube
Oil paint (37 mL tube of each): Burnt Siena, Burnt
Umber, Ultramarine Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium
Red Med., Hanza Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Thalo Green
or Viridian, Titanium White
Canvas or canvas boards: 2 – 16 x 20”, 2 – 18 x 24”,
Brushes:At least one Round, one Flat, and one Filbert
size 2, 4, or 6, per student’s discretion. One larger
Flat or Filbert highly recommended
One Palette knife
One Palette, wooden or paper
One small container of mineral spirits: Turpenoid or
Gamsol
One Roll of Paper towels, or other type of rags.
Two small plastic cups or jars
One Sketchbook

Introduction to Glassblowing with McKinley Moore
Six-week class
Monday, Apr 1 – May 6, 6:00-8:00pm

Manipulate 2100 degree molten glass to create solid
paperweights, blown ornaments, and small vessels as
you learn the fundamentals of off hand glassblowing!
Emphasis will be on safety, tools, the glassblower’s bench, the furnace, and gathering hot glass on a blowpipe.
(6) two hour sessions
$215 LVAA Member / $235 Non-Member
Required materials:
Protective Eyewear: Safety glasses from a hardware
store
What to wear to Class:
Close-Toed Shoes: No sandals or flip flops.
Cotton Clothing Only: No synthetics. Arm protectors
can also be made from cotton socks with the toe
end cut off to protect forearms from excess heat.
