Suzy Hatcher
Open Doors Instructor

Suzy started making ceramics in high school when her art teacher allowed her to experiment during her “free period.” She continued to make clay pieces at Hiram College. After receiving a Hite assistantship at U of L, Suzy started her graduate studies under the direction of Ginny Marsh where she was exposed to functional work.

Sin then, Suzy has maintained a studio of her own to produce one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces. She teaches small group classes at her studio. She has been an artist in residence at Bloom Elementary, Maryhurst School and Byck Elementary. In addition to facilitating Open Doors projects at New Directions Housing Corp. locations, she creates work in conjunction with the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft's artist in residence programs and the Speed Museum's Artsparks. " I believe that art is not always an artifact viewed in a museum but a cherished part of our everyday lives. I put the quality of life over the convenience of the drive thru; the difference is having ceramic art in my life and home."
