I delight in feeling the squish and movement between my fingertips as a pot is born from a small lump of clay. My earthenware pots, bedecked in candy-coating glazes, reference the body, American cuisine and home décor from the 1950s kitsch to Martha Stewart. I love the combination of humble and quirky.
I strive to make a pot that lends itself to the imagination. By drawing from a diverse group of inspiration sources, not only can a user access my pots on a functional level, but also through the connection to the memory of an object or experience.
I grew up in the suburbs of the Twin Cities and discovered clay as a biology major at Carleton College. After earning a Master of Fine Art from Penn State University, I received a residency at the Archie Bray Foundation during the summer of 2005. Most recently, I spent a month as a resident artist in Goshogawara, Japan. I currently teach ceramics at Hamline University in St. Paul.
