The Louisville Visual Art Association’s Art Envoy exhibition bridges generations and artistic styles – connecting the local artistic past with that of the present and future. Building on the 1981 exhibition, Showcase 25 presented by the then Art Center Association, Art Envoy has the additional element of highlighting a new generation of emerging artists and exhibiting them on the same platform as the original twenty-four participants.
About Showcase 25
Showcase 25, one of the first exhibits held at the Louisville Water Tower, was a juried show open to artists living within one hundred miles of Louisville. The jury consisted of Robert Stearns (Director, Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati), Jeanette Cole (faculty member, Department of Art, Murray State University), Roberta Williams (Director, Louisville Art Gallery), Dr. S. Pearson Auerbach (collector and member of the Art Center Association Board of Directors), and Jan Arnow (Director, Art Center Association). Selected artists ranged from emerging to establish and worked in a myriad of mediums from photography, ceramics, painting, serigraphy, paper, fiber, drawing, sculpture, multi-media, and both hot and leaded glass.

Showcase 25 Revisited and Art Envoy
Twenty years later, in 2002, the Louisville Visual Art Association (LVAA) presented Showcase 25 Revisited in which 17 of the original artists from Showcase 25 exhibited their work. And now thirty years later, for the final exhibition to be held at the Louisville Water Tower, LVAA has come full circle to revisit one of our first and favorite exhibits. Twenty of the original exhibiting artist from the 1981 show have returned as we have asked them to partner with a local, emerging artist and either create a piece together or exhibit side by side. LVAA ushers in the newest generation of local artists while honoring those that have been with us through the years.
